It’s a Big Bike Party on Friday 9th August!

The Hastings Big Bike Party will take place this Friday 9 August at the Stade, Hastings Old Town. It will run from 10am to 4pm, as part of the 1066 Market. Sponsored by Hastings Urban Bikes, this free event allows parents to bring their kids and kids’ bikes along for a free safety check, writes Rebecca Snotflower.

Three bike mechanics will be ready with tools and cycle maintenance advice, courtesy of High Tide Cycles bike shop in St. Leonards, The Labyrinth Community Bike Workshop (also in St Leonards) and Cranks DIY Bike Workshop in Brighton. Drop-in art workshops will show the kids how to decorate the bikes with flags, crazy stickers and noisy things, to keep young cyclists seen and heard on the roads.

Everyone can meet the next day with their awesome newly decorated bikes, to participate in the Hastings Town Carnival parade. Everyone is welcome – meet back at the Stade at 2pm on Saturday and wear high-viz, day-glo, gold and silver costumes, to match the bike decorations.

But that’s not all! The Big Bike Party are running a ‘Draw Your Dream Bike’ competition. If you haven’t picked up an entry form yet, you can still do so, from High Tide Cycles in Marine Court, or come along on the day and get a form. The winner will have their dream bike idea made into a real bike! There are also runner-up prizes donated by local bike shops including Handsome Bicycles, Hastings Cycles and Cycle Life.

So come along and get involved, bring your bikes and join in the Hastings Big Bike Party!
